self portrait in a daylight room The architectural college I used to attend had a daylight room comprising a box lined with mirrors and lit with a bank of fluorescent lamps to produce a shadowless environment. We were supposed to put our model on the table and take light readings inside it. Technically very boring - with far more interesting photographicpotential!

Stephan Grapelli This is one of my favorite sets of photographs. The legendary jazz violinist Stephan Grapelli played a concert in the town I was living at the time. The guy in the indian suit had been a lifelong fan, but was in a play when Stephan visited and couldn't go to the concert. The local paper arranged for Stephan to autograph one of his albums for him, but no-one told either Stephan or his road manager (a bolshie so-and-so) who refused to co-operate, and took Stephan off for a meal before the concert. The other photographer from the rival newspaper got fed up with waiting for him to return and went. I waited and got a local scoop!
